Open Standards

The etymology of the word “Standard” is flag and from old Frankish means “standhard” which literally means “stand hard”, “stand firm”. Probably this was called so because the flag pole was stuck to the ground with upright position. Standard also means unit of measurement. In the olden days kings used to be authoritative in setting standard weight and measures across there realm.

The modern Oxford Dictionary defines Standard as;

noun

 a required or agreed level of quality or attainment”

Adjective

“used or accepted as normal or average”.

So Open standards are basically the "set of specifications" that are to be followed by the product.The product developed under a proper standard would be used by the customers with proper ease.
